Title: A Court of Wings and Ruin
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Genre: Fantasy, Action & Adventure, Romance
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This is the third novel in a trilogy. If you haven’t read the first two books and care about that, do not venture forth!
The ending of a series. I feel the characters have improved so much from the first novel that the two books can’t even be compared. This book continues on with the Archeron sisters figuring out how to live with their new lives. We watch as everyone prepares for a battle that seems impossible to win. This is a huge book that I absolutely enjoyed conquering.
The sex ugh at this point it’s mandatory for all SJM novels. I just felt that we really don’t need to know every single sex charged detail. I really loved this series and want to read the novellas, A Court of Frost and Starlight, but I’m not looking forward to the extreme amounts of sexual encounters.
The end was filled with way too much cliche. From the characters we saw in the first book to now, I feel these two books can’t even be compared. So much so, that it felt so forced. Especially the surprise character at the end, that was just a stretch in my opinion.
I love reading a book where someone is hiding something and we all know but no one else does. Super specific, but it’s my guilty pleasure. Now, the whole first quarter is like that. This is perfect for me so I finally have an inkling of enjoyment in this series.
The beginning being different from the rest of the book. SJM did this in all three novels and I love this so much. To be honest, this is exactly like the first yay but wow I love this.
I grew to love all of the characters in this story. Sarah J Maas has a way of weaving relationships between characters and building their personalities to new heights. I loved getting to know everyone and I really can’t wait to read more in the novellas.
I did not expect to like this series as much as I do now. I’m reminded of Throne of Glass of course but the buildup was really entertaining. I reccomend giving this series a whirl but do be warned, I rated the first book 2 stars I hated it so much. But it does and will get better!
My similar recommendation is obviously Throne of Glass. Fae and fighting? Look no further.
